Turkish Color Change Diaspore Zultanite (12642)

$22.00
Sold Out

This is 100% genuine Turkish color change diaspore from the Milas District in Muğla Province, Turkey. Diaspore has been found in several locations around the world, but the Küçükçamlık, Büyükçamlık and Akçakmak Hills of the İlbir Mountains in Turkey are renowned for producing rare, high-quality, color change material that is treasured for use in gemstones. This specimen is diaspore from that location.

Diaspore is a hydrous aluminum oxide with the chemical formula of AlO(OH). Gem-quality diaspore is generally transparent to translucent and has a vitreous to sub-adamantine luster.

When we were given the opportunity to buy a quantity of this material from our supplier in Ankara Turkey, Jane and I researched this material extensively. We read about the origin and crystal structure of the material and its diagnostic properties. We researched the fakes and saw quite a few on various sales platforms (they are pretty easy to spot). After researching this mineral extensively, we are absolutely confident that we have genuine, natural, color change diaspore from İlbir Mountains in Turkey, and we are happy to offer it in our shop.

Genuine color change diaspore will show a range of colors under different sources of light. It is green under a white LED light source and it changes to a light purple color under incandescent light. It is yellow-green in daylight and can look clear or whitish. Please note that the color change can be subtle depending on the type and brightness of the light.

Our photos of this piece clearly show the color change property. We took the photos using only an inexpensive desk-lamp with a bright-white LED, and a standard household lamp with a 40-Watt incandescent bulb. No expensive fancy lights were used, and as always with our photos and videos, there was no funny business with adjusting the color.

Our pieces are clean, clear, and they display the color change property. The pieces we offer here are some of the best quality pieces we saw posted on the web. Many sellers are selling them by for 10s of dollars per carat. We are offering them at $5 to $10 per gram.

This piece is from Milas Muğla, Turkey. It is 2.767 g and 18 x 15 x 4 mm.
