Beautiful, doubly terminated Herkimer “Diamond” Quartz crystal wrapped in 14kt gold filled wire. The stone has amazing clarity and shape, with an imprint from another crystal as well as multiple phantom inclusions.

Stone from: Herkimer Diamond Mines, Herkimer, Herkimer County, NY

Herkimer diamonds are not true diamonds, but a type of quartz crystal that can be found in dolomite outcrops in and around Herkimer County, New York. They are known for their clarity and natural faceting, which give them a diamond-like appearance. Herkimer diamonds are popular among collectors and jewelers and can be mined by visitors at the Herkimer Diamond Mines Resort.

14 kt gold filled wire is a type of wire that has a layer of 14 karat gold bonded to a base metal, usually brass, by heat and pressure. The gold layer must be at least 1/20th of the total weight of the wire, according to US regulations. Gold filled wire is more durable and affordable than solid gold wire, and it has the same color and shine. Gold filled wire comes in different shapes (round, square, half round) and hardnesses (dead soft, half hard), and it can be used for making various kinds of jewelry.
