Indonesian blue, green and white opalized petrified wood. This is polished on both sides, one side to a mirror finish, the other side a dull finish.
Location: Garut, West Java, Indonesia
Size: 46 x 37 x 7 mm. 20 grams
Indonesian blue and green petrified wood is from ancient trees (over 20 million years old) that were knocked down during volcanic eruptions and buried by many meters of ash and debris. Over many millennia, high silica water with trace elements impregnated and eventually replaced the wood with beautiful highly colored silica. The volcanic rock (and ground water) was also high in copper, resulting in the beautiful blue and green hues in the piece.
