ONE (1) Willemite, Calcite & Franklinite Specimen - Fluorescent - TWO SIZES AVAILABLE - Brief red Phosphoresence
You will receive ONE (1) Fluorescent green and orange willemite, calcite and franklinite specimen from Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey.
TWO SIZES AVAILABLE
Small - average 5 to 6 cm each. 46 to 140grams each.
Large - average 6 to 7.5 cm each. 140 to 275 grams each.
Due to the individual nature to each of these specimens, the color combinations can vary widely. If you have a color ratio preference, please send a note when you order. If no preference is noted we will make a random selection in your desired size.
Willemite fluoresces green and calcite pink/orange/red. Franklinite does not react. Both 365 nm long wave and 254 nm short wave cause fluorescence with short wave brighter and more orange than pink. The pieces will show a brief red phosphorescence from the calcite with a 365 nm UV light, and a green phosphorescence after illuminating with a 254 nm short wave UV light.
PLEASE NOTE: A 365 nm long wave ultraviolet light and 254 nm short wave light were used in the fluorescent photos. A standard black light generally will not make minerals fluoresce (glow).
Please let us know if you would like additional information on mineral fluorescence and ultraviolet lights. 🥰. We have a great $25 365 nm long wave fluorescent flashlight available.
Thank you for visiting us today, we appreciate it!
