Beautiful red ruby crystal on matrix. Fluorescent under long wave UV.
This piece contains a near-gemmy transparent ruby crystal, the red/pink gem variety of the mineral species corundum. This ruby crystal is an a calcite/dolomite white marble matrix.
The ruby crystal is in the pseudo-octahedral form and some of the crystal faces show classic ruby crystallization lines. UV photos are with 365 nm long wave light.
